Charity Event

I got busy and put together some simple quilt tops for charity.

My church's youth group tied the quilts.

With everyone helping the quilts were finished in no time. 

Everyone had fun!

And somewhere, someone is a little warmer and feels our love!

Lisa's Orphan Block Bag

I had a wonderful day quilting with my sister Lisa, she made this adorable cosmetics bag using the technique from my post: Orphan Block Bag.

A Wedding Quilt for my Daughter

I made this quilt for my daughter Jen and her husband Matt for their wedding.

I quilted leaves and vines on the border with their names and the wedding date across the bottom.

I love how it turned out! Congratulations to the Weston's!

Cindy's Chevron Quilt

My sister, Cindy, came over to the studio recently and quilted this darling chevron quilt that she designed and made for her niece, who recently had a baby girl.

Cindy and I are developing a pattern based on this quilt. You might have seen my version in a past blog-post announcing my up coming opportunity to teach in Heber Utah this summer....

 I love how gorgeous, graphic and colorful it is. Thanks for sharing your beautiful quilt with us Cindy!

Twilight Quilt

Jeannie Schaerrer brought me this dramatic and graphic quilt to quilt for her niece.

Her niece loves Stephanie Meyers Twilight books and the color scheme for this quilt is very vampire...

I love the bold graphic design of this quilt. 

Jeannie's great color placement choices created this great design.

Jeannie chose the all over peacock feather quilting. So effective! I love the juxtaposition of the curvy quilting and the geometric piecing. Thank you Jeannie for letting me quilt your quilt!

Different ways to lay out the same blocks

I made these fun asymmetrical 9 patch blocks using a "stack and whack" method. I wanted to visualize how they would look when they were all put together in a quilt.

For this quilt I used the Crazy Nine Patch Lattice Tutorial from the site above. I used 9 different fabrics in three different colors. Because I layered the fabrics brown, blue, green repeat, the blocks kind of look like they are woven.

I wanted to get an idea of what I could do with this block, so I laid all the blocks out on the floor and took a look. First I put them side by side.

 Then I put them on a piece of background fabric with a little space around them to represent sashing...

Then I set them on point, I tried it with four pieced blocks...

 and another version with five.

All of the layouts had something unique to offer, but I ended up making the quilt like the first lay out because I liked the woven look for this application. This quilt is featured in a post from back in May. You can see a picture of it finished and read more about it here:  Jordan's Quilt

A Visit to Natalia Bonner's Studio

Natalia and I belong to the Utah Valley Machine Quilting Guild. A few months back we held a meeting in her  beautiful Heber Valley studio! She allowed me to take a few pictures inside and gave me permission to share them with you! The quilt on the wall won a contest you may recognize it!

Here is a variation on a quilt that has become her trademark and a colorful hexagon quilt. 

Natalia is quite an inspiration! She taught a class about blogging and that is how I got started blogging. I am so grateful to Natalia for her information, inspiration and encouragement!

This is a quilt she designed using a jelly roll. It helped her get started working with Moda..... So cute!

Amanda's baby quilt

Our extended family has been so blessed with babies this year!

This darling quilt is for my niece, Amanda's new little boy!

These fun fabrics came from Riley Blake.

Cindy and I used strip piecing to make this quickly and accurately!

A closeup of the backing fabric--it is flannel. So cozy!

I used an all over swirl design when I quilted it. I love the motion it creates. Then great-grandma hand bound this lovely quilt. Congratulations Amanda!
