Scrap Potholders

I've been having so much fun making hot pads with left over scraps!
Here is one set front and back. This set has flower quilting.

Here is another set quilted using the Stitch in the Ditch technique!

Instructions:

So these are fun and easy to make. I cut a 7 1/2 to 8 inch square of left over cotton/poly batting.
Somewhere near the center I place a triangle or pentagon shaped scrap.

I lay another scrap face down along one side of the original scrap and sew a quarter inch seam.

Flip the upside down scrap so it is right side up and finger press.

Then, place another scrap upside down along another side of the original scrap and sew it and flip it.

Repeat the place, sew, and flip steps round and round the original scrap until the whole piece of batting is covered.

Cut a backing square the same size as your batting.

Quilt along a few of the scraps to hold it all together. Trim to even up the square.

Bind with your favorite method!

Easy Peasy!

If you have questions you can look at this tutorial for Crazy Quilt Foundation Piecing:

The fabric combinations are endless, happy quilting!

Charity Event

I got busy and put together some simple quilt tops for charity.

My church's youth group tied the quilts.

With everyone helping the quilts were finished in no time.

Everyone had fun!

And somewhere, someone is a little warmer and feels our love!

Lisa's Orphan Block Bag

I had a wonderful day quilting with my sister Lisa, she made this adorable cosmetics bag using the technique from my post: Orphan Block Bag.

The lovely Lisa

What a fun project, I just love how it turned out!

Orphan Block Bag

I wanted to try my hand at making a large cosmetic bag with these orphan blocks. They are left over from a quilt I made some time ago.

They are simple 9 patch blocks and I had a few squares left over from making the quilt.

I found this tutorial online at Sew like my Mom.com and liked the bag so, I used her instructions with the following changes:  I substituted orphan blocks for one of the fat quarters and I did not use the vinyl. The vinyl is great but I did not have any on hand.

This is a very roomy bag and so nice!

Ironing Board

My dear husband built an awesome table for my quilting room ironing board. It has a large flat surface and lots of storage space. I made an easy cover for it using some Ironing Board Cover Fabric from JoAnn's.

The fabric has an aluminzed coating to give it a smooth, resilient surface.

I put two layers of cotton batting on the table top and made the cover to fit over it all. I put elastic on the corners. I just finished it and look forward to using it soon!

After

For a future project I am going to make hot pads with scraps from quilts and use some of the cover-fabric for the back of the hot pads...

New to the world of blogging...

This is my first experimental post. I have not yet figured out what to say and I am not sure if this will work so....I chose these pictures of a quiet book page I designed.

So This quiet book is a piece of stiff non-woven interfacing cut twice the size of the finished paged. I think this page is about 9 x 12 inches. The face is made from a brushed nylon because it is kind of loopy and felt will stay put and it does not fray on the edges. I cut a silly potato shape and sewed it on leaving the top open so the pieces can be stored inside. The face pieces are from fake fur and felt cut into shapes that can be used in multiple ways. The letters are sticky-backed letters I got in the craft section at Wal-Mart.

After you sew the potato shape on this side and put whatever you want on the other side, I closed the page up by using a decorative stitch on all 4 sides.

Have fun.
